SUCCESS IN DUQUOIN FOR GOODWIN

SUCCESS IN DUQUOIN FOR GOODWIN

The GGR team headed down south to go race at the famous mini mile indoor track at the Southern Illinois Center. They left Thursday night for the 6 hour haul to race on February 28th and 29th. Day 1, Friday’s race consisted of hot laps, heat races, B mains, and the final A-main. For hot laps, Garett was fast right out of the box. The car handled really good and had a lot of good speed.

Starting 8th for the heat race, Garett had to pass as many cars as he could to collect enough “Passing points” to try and lock him into the top 14 for the A-Main. Green flag dropped and Goodwin was on a mission. He was able to finish in 3rd out of 10 cars. That gave him enough points to lock himself into the show out of 66 drivers.

Came time for the 20 lap A-Main with Garett starting 5th. Few laps into the race, he moved into the 2nd position. During the A-Main, Garett was suffering with engine problems causing him to have lack of power. However, he was able to hold on to 2nd place for the finish!

Day 2 consisted of the same racing format. Going into Saturday, the team still hasn’t came up with a solution for the engine problem. However, because of Garett’s 2nd place finish the night before, that locked him into the Saturday nights A-Main. Garett only had to run the fast dash race to determine where he would start in the main. With a lot of time in between hot laps and the dash, the team made some changes to the engine hoping to solve their engine issue. The dash came around and Goodwin started in 2nd. In the 4 lap dash, Garett powered his way to first to collect his first Fast Dash win allowing him to start on the pole position for the A-Main. Good news after that race, they solved their engine issues.

Time for the 25 lap A-Main, the team made a few adjustments to the car. As the green flag dropped, Goodwin jumped to the lead. Leading the first 6 laps, the track started to slick up. Goodwin fell back to 2nd and was able to hold on 2nd to bring home another podium finish for the weekend.

“I’m just speechless. This car was great all weekend. Once we got our engine issue solved, we had the power!”, says Goodwin, “this team worked their tails off to give me a race winning car and we just came up a little short.”
