PLYMOUTH, INDIANA – May 13, 2017 – After breaking a tie rod in the season opener on May 6th, Garett and the race team pushed forward and got the car prepared for their second visit to Plymouth Speedway on May 13th. Although the season opener was a dry/slick track, Garett had to decide what adjustments to make on the car for the tacky track conditions.
Starting in the second position for the eight-lap heat race, Goodwin quickly jumped into lead. After leading the first three laps of the race, TOPP Motorsports UMP Modified driver Dylan Woodling, took the lead from Garett as they went into turn one and two. Trying to learn everything he could while following Woodling, Garett captured the second place finish for the heat race.
Rolling off in the sixth position for the 20-lap A-Main event, Goodwin’s goals for the race was to bring the car home in one piece and to learn what adjustments work for a tacky track. Goodwin avoided many incidents in the beginning of the race while riding in the top ten thought-out the entire race. However, as the car was tightening up, Garett lost the tenth place position on the last lap and was able to bring home an 11th place finish, marking his best career finish in the 600 Non-Wing division.
“After having a rough finish at our season opener, I’m pleased with our results tonight,” said Goodwin, “We have a pretty solid base line set up down for a dry/slick track. We just need to do some more homework for our tacky set up.”
Goodwin’s 11th place finish bumped him up five spots in the championship standings to the 12th position.
