PERU, INDIANA – September 4th, 2016 – After a solid run at Plymouth Speedway last week, the team decided to travel to Peru, Indiana for Garett to get more seat time and more experience at a new track. Miami County Speedway is a 1/8th mile dirt track located at the county fairgrounds in Peru. The team unloaded the car Saturday afternoon for the first day of the race weekend. Garett only had 5 laps of practice to understand the track and the car before the races began. With 37 cars in Garett’s class and only 20 cars allowed to race in the A-Main, he had to race his way into the A-Main.

Starting 3rd in the heat race, Goodwin had some difficulties with the car and fell back to 8th. With the 8th place finish, that put Garett in the B-Main with only the top 2 transferring into the A-Main. A 12 lap B-Main and starting 10th, Goodwin had a short time to make his way to the front to transfer. Running out of laps, Garett fell short with a 4th place finish. Even though Garett didn’t make the show, he and the team learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it.

Sunday was a new day on the same track but different track conditions. The car was really loose in practice, so the team made a few adjustments for the heat race. Starting 3rd in the heat race, someone ran over Garett’s left rear tire causing him to get spun around. Restarting at the tail of the field, the car was too loose and Garett finished in the 7th position.

The 7th place finish from the heat race wasn’t good enough to make the A-Main causing Garett to race his way through the B-Main. Goodwin took the green flag in the 3rd position and had only 12 laps to make it in the top 2 transfer spots. Battling for 2nd and 3rd, Goodwin got underneath the 3rd place car going into turn one and got spun around causing him to get sent to the back. After the restart, Goodwin was making his way back up through the field when the car in front of him slowed way down leaving him no place to go and caused Garett to get tangled up into another incident. Too much damage was taken during the B-Main, so Garett decided to call it a night and park it in the pits.

“Even though we didn’t make the show both nights, we still learned a lot and gained a lot of experience”, Goodwin stated, “We’re going to take a few races off to take everything apart and make sure the car is ready for our next race.”
