Goodwin Battles Through the Rough Spots

Goodwin Battles Through the Rough Spots

Garett Goodwin made his second start at Illiana Motor Speedway on June 2nd in the Super Late Model class. Garett and the crew made a few changes from last weeks race while going into the second race. The first practice went well as Garett improved throughout practice. Garett was stating that the car had improved from last week but was still suffering with a tight car. As qualifying was about to begin, the GGR crew were finding different tire pressures to run to try and free up the car for the upcoming feature.

After qualifying in the 21st position, the adjustments improved the car a little bit, but wasn't quite enough. Starting in the 8th position for the heat race, Garett was able to use that race to get more familiar with the car before the feature event. After pulling off a 6th place finish in the heat, Goodwin was able to communicate with his crew chief to tell him how the car was reacting.

As the feature came around, the #29 Super Late Model was set to roll off in the 23rd position. The green flag waved over Illiana Motor Speedway as Goodwin was able to stay strong throughout the beginning of the race. As the first caution came out, Garett was saying that he was feeling a vibration throughout the entire car. To be on the safe side, Goodwin pulled into the pits for the crew to analyze the situation. As the GGR crew worked hard to figure out where the vibration was coming from, it turns out that the muffler clamp came loose causing the exhaust to vibrate on the frame rail. After the situation was solved, Garett went back out for the feature and was able to pull off a 19th place finish.

“It was a bummer that we had to pull into the pits due to the vibration issue”, says Goodwin, “after I knew it wasn't a serious issue, I just wanted to go back in and finish the race. I'm just looking to finish every race and get as much seat time as I can. This is going to be a big learning year for not only me, but for my crew.”

Garett and the GGR Crew would like to thank Sevey Motorsports, Camden Murphy Racing, K1 Race Gear, Burkholder Excavating, Versaw Earthworks, Miller Industrial Gases LLC, Nelson's Saloon, Harrington Collision Repair, Pork & Beans Racing, DriverWebsites.com, SponsorTheTrucks.com, Hole-In-One Motorsports, Team Automotive, and all of our fans for their support.
