Goodwin Captures Strong Finish in Debut

#29 Garett Goodwin made his debut at Illiana Motor Speedway on May 26 in the Super Late Model class. Garett and the crew have worked hard in the past two weeks to prepare for Garett's debut. When the crew rolled up to the track, they had to take the car through pre-tech which caused Garett to miss the first practice. He was able to catch the last few minutes of final practice to get an idea of how the car handled for the first time. As practice came to an end, Garett was stating that the car was too tight and wasn't rotating correctly through the corners. The crew made a few adjustments to the car as they prepared for qualifying.

After qualifying in the 22nd position out of 23 cars, the adjustments did not improve the car. The GGR crew analyzed the car and noticed that the height of the car changed and was affecting the handling of car. With the short amount of time the crew had before the heat race, they adjusted the best they could to get the car close to what it was suppose to be. Starting in the 8th position for the heat race, Garett was able to use that race to get more familiar with the car before the feature event. After pulling off a 7th place finish in the heat, Goodwin was able to get ideas of changes that they can make for the main event.

As the feature came around, the #29 Super Late Model was set to roll off in the 22nd position. The green flag waved over Illiana Motor Speedway as Goodwin was able to stay strong throughout the race. While suffering handling issues all race long, Garett was able to pull off a strong 14th place finish in his first Super Late Model event.

“It feels good to be back behind the wheel again and especially coming back to my home track”, says Goodwin, “we were suffering handling issues all day long, but I am proud of the results that we ended up with, for it being my first race in a Super Late.”
